ImageMatthew Taylor, prospective MP for Brighton Kemptown, has welcomed the news that work is beginning on Hastings Pier.

He says ‘This is great news for Hastings and we should be doing the same with our West Pier in Brighton.’

‘The lock over the pier’s gates was cut to signal the start of a £14 million refurbishment project,’ reports the Brighton Evening Argus.

‘Work starts this month and the Hastings Pier Charity has pledged to favour local people and businesses in rebuilding and running the pier. Initial work will be to renovate the pier’s pavilion and build a new visitor centre while a restaurant and an arts centre are planned.’

‘This is what we need’, says Matthew Taylor, getting ready for a show-down with Simon Kirby the sitting MP for Brighton’s Kemptown and Peacehaven constituency, in the 2015 general election.
