ImageLight has been shone upon Simon Kirby’s sexual activities having taken his third HIV test in as many years.

Promoting World Aid’s Day, Simon Kirby used the opportunity to be given a rapid finger-prick blood test by a nurse from HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust.

After a 15 minute wait, in which worry is etched over Simon Kirby’s face, his test is revealed to be negative.

According to the government’s own AIDS advisory website you should get tested for HIV every at least every year if you:

  • Share needles/syringes or other equipment (“works”) for injecting drugs.

  • Have a history of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

  • Have had unprotected sex (vaginal, anal, or oral) with multiple or anonymous partners. Or if you have had had unprotected sex with a partner who did not know their own HIV status.

Talking from personal experience Simon Kirby advises, “It’s quick, it’s easy and it doesn’t hurt. HIV is no longer the death sentence it used to be and regular testing can make the difference. I would urge anyone who has never been tested to go.”

There are thought to be around 100,000 people living with HIV in the UK, but a quarter of these are untested and therefore unaware they have the virus.
