Matt Taylor the Prospective Member of Parliament for Brighton Kemptown 2015, has joined forces with Brighton’s famous crime novelist Peter James, to save Brighton’s 100 year old tradition of racing very fast along Marina Drive.
HEALTH AND SAFETY HAS GONE TOO FAR.
Echoing calls on Peter James facebook page, Matt Taylor questions the logic of Brighton and Hove County Council to cancel the event on Health and Safety grounds.
The loss of the Brighton Speed Trials will be a tragic and needless loss to Brighton and would spell the end of an era for Brighton with over 100 years of history and entertainment. The end of the Speed Trials will also have a financial impact on tourism and trade for retailers and businesses in the area as it brings thousands of visitors to Brighton.
D-DAY ON 23RD JANUARY.
The decision as to whether The Speed Trials continues will be decided on the 23rd of January and Peter James urges all motor sport fans to sign a petition which has already collected over 8,000 signatures, including Sir Stirling Moss.

THE OLDEST MOTOR SPORTING EVENT IN THE UK.
As Peter James points out, the speed trials has been running in Brighton since 1905 and is one of the highlights of the Brighton’s seafront entertainment calendar. Thousands of people come down for an entertaining fun-packed day out for the whole family to watch some of the UK’s best race cars and motor bikes compete along Madeira Drive.
Over two hundred cars and motor bikes line up to take a timed run including road cars, race cars and drag bikes who compete to win the fastest in their class. A top six run-off to find the fastest car and bike brings the day to a dramatic close.
HELP SAVE BRIGHTON SPEED TRIALS.
“For all of you who think health and safety has gone too far – to the point of bonkers, often – please can we enlist your support to help save the Brighton Speed Trials,” said Peter James.
UNDER THREAT ON HEALTH AND SAFETY GROUNDS.
Since when have racing drivers ever worried about health and health?
MOTOR DRIVERS ARE MADE OF STERNER STUFF.
Peter James knows all too well the horror of losing control of a speeding car.
FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF NIKI LAUDA.
Peter James had his own dice with death, when his rally car rolled in a 70 mph crash at the Masters Historic Festival at Brands Hatch on May 25th 2013.
An ambulance rushed the Brighton-born writer to hospital where doctors carried out checks on his liver, spleen and ribs.
Complaining of severe back-ache, Peter James showed true Roy Grace style grit in bouncing back and getting behind of the wheel of his rally car only weeks after his horrific spin.
Still terrifying fans across the world, Peter James is presently promoting his first theatre adaptation of his novella, ‘The Perfect Murder’. Kicking of in January, The Perfect Murder cast will include TV stars Les Dennis, Gray O’Brien, Claire Goose, Simona Armstrong and last but not least, Steven Miller making an appearance as an young Detective Constable Roy Grace. Through the music of long-time Roy Grace fan Danny Kroonen you might just experience that! A haunting track, written from the heart and with only one man and thing in mind: Roy Grace and his pursuit for justice! “I’M A FAN”
Being a loyal fan of Peter James since 1991, after being terrified by one of his pre-Roy Grace books, Twilight, Matt Taylor remembers the day he was invited to the book launch of ‘Dead Like You’ at the Honey Club Bar in Brighton in 2010.
“It was amazing to be invited by Peter and even better to meet my all time hero, none other than the God-father of British horror writing, James Herbert. RIP.”
“Peter James is a top man, who always has time for his fans. Saving Brighton’s Speed Trials is above politics and the right thing to do for Brighton. I trust the other candidates for Brighton Kemptown 2015, namely Davy Jones, Nancy Platts and Simon Kirby, join us in saving this much love Brightonian tradition.”
