Matt Taylor the Prospective Member of Parliament for Brighton Kemptown 2015, has joined forces with Brighton’s famous crime novelist Peter James, to save Brighton’s 100 year old tradition of racing very fast along Marina Drive.

Echoing calls on Peter James facebook page, Matt Taylor questions the logic of Brighton and Hove County Council to cancel the event on Health and Safety grounds.

The loss of the Brighton Speed Trials will be a tragic and needless loss to Brighton and would spell the end of an era for Brighton with over 100 years of history and entertainment. The end of the Speed Trials will also have a financial impact on tourism and trade for retailers and businesses in the area as it brings thousands of visitors to Brighton.

D-DAY ON 23RD JANUARY.

The decision as to whether The Speed Trials continues will be decided on the 23rd of January and Peter James urges all motor sport fans to sign a petition which has already collected over 8,000 signatures, including Sir Stirling Moss.

As Peter James points out, the speed trials has been running in Brighton since 1905 and is one of the highlights of the Brighton’s seafront entertainment calendar. Thousands of people come down for an entertaining fun-packed day out for the whole family to watch some of the UK’s best race cars and motor bikes compete along Madeira Drive.

Over two hundred cars and motor bikes line up to take a timed run including road cars, race cars and drag bikes who compete to win the fastest in their class. A top six run-off to find the fastest car and bike brings the day to a dramatic close.

HELP SAVE BRIGHTON SPEED TRIALS.

“For all of you who think health and safety has gone too far – to the point of bonkers, often – please can we enlist your support to help save the Brighton Speed Trials,” said Peter James.

Peter James knows all too well the horror of losing control of a speeding car.

FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF NIKI LAUDA.

Peter James had his own dice with death, when his rally car rolled in a 70 mph crash at the Masters Historic Festival at Brands Hatch on May 25th 2013.

An ambulance rushed the Brighton-born writer to hospital where doctors carried out checks on his liver, spleen and ribs.
